So, after posting my blog about community over competition, I got inspired to tell you about a girl who means the world to me.
Meet Robin of r.g photography.
If you can only know two things about Robin these would be them.
- She has a heart for people.
- She kicks butt daily
Ok, so let me start from the beginning. I posted on FB that I was shooting a bridal downtown if anyone would like to come shoot as well. She messaged me and we agreed to grab lunch before the session. Robin and I are very similar when it comes to shooting and personality so I was very excited! That was 4 years ago.
Robin has 2nd shot with me a few times and has done our family photos. She solidified her place in my heart on August 28, 2014 when she videoed Vincent and I leaving the NICU with Mila after a 8 week stay. There will never be words to explain how grateful I am for that footage and to have this beautiful lady be a part of that special day. [you can see the video here]. She refused to let me pay her and thanked ME for the opportunity.
Robin truly has a heart for people and when I talk to potential clients about hiring a 2nd shooter I always hope Robin is free. I don’t tell the clients about her portfolio or how much experience she has – I tell them about her heart. She has bailed me out several times and she takes care of people she loves. A recent bride decided to pay for a 2nd shooter after hearing how amazing Robin is!
Y’all. This is a TOUGH industry. There is a ton of competition and sometimes it can get awkward when around another photographer. We all need a reminder that it’s ok to be competitors in an area but that we are all just trying to follow our dreams.
Surround yourself with people who love you as a person and a professional. Surround yourself with people who build you up. Surround yourself with happy, kind, and thoughtful people. All I’m saying is surround yourself with Robins.
